There is less than one week to go until the opening of the whitebaiting season on the West Coast! For those who do not know, whitebait is a juvenile fish caught with nets near the lower reaches of rivers. They are a true delicacy – small, sweet and tender and perfect in a fritter. Let’s hope they run well this season!

On Saturday, 14 August, a fundraising event called A Hot Concert on a Cold August Night is being held at Hokitika’s Regent Theatre to raise funds for improved stage lighting and sound equipment. The Regent is a 1935 Art Deco theatre that has been refurbished over recent years to boast the latest technology including 3D film capability.
