Break from the Quake offers some relief

1000 Cantabrians who suffered genuine hardship from the recent earthquake were offered a much needed free “Break from the Quake” package. Beachfront Hotel was pleased to participate in the offer with free accommodation and discounted meals and the feedback from participants has been positive. We hope it has given them some relief!

Ocean View Restaurant

A new menu is available TODAY in our Ocean View Restaurant. Enjoy coconut prawns and whitebait while watching the sunset or enjoy a glass of wine with a selection from our platter menu on the balcony. 

  • Evening a la carte menu
  • Platters available daily 4:30-9pm

Driftwood Café

Our Driftwood Café is now open for evening meals Thursdays to Sundays in addition to our normal breakfast and lunch hours. We have also updated our menus so please have a look!

  • Breakfast daily 7-11am. Breakfast menu
  • Lunch daily 11am- 3pm and dinner Thurs to Sun from 5:30pm. Lunch and dinner menu

A Day at the Beach Grand Celebration: 3 Sept

A year ago, as part of the A Day at the Beach festival, over 2000 West Coasters took part protecting their coastline by planting trees and removing rubbish from beaches. Now, it is time to celebrate this effort with The Grand Celebration at the Hokitika Regent Theatre from 5:30pm, Friday 3 Sept. There will be a whitebait relay race, live music, screenings of entries into the West Coast Film Challenge and the premiere of  the movie looking at the festival from 2009. There is less than one week to go until the opening of the whitebaiting season on the West Coast! For those who do not know, whitebait is a juvenile fish caught with nets near the lower reaches of rivers. They are a true delicacy – small, sweet and tender and perfect in a fritter. Let’s hope they run well this season!

Fundraiser for Hokitika’s Regent Theatre

On Saturday, 14 August, a fundraising event called A Hot Concert on a Cold August Night is being held at Hokitika’s Regent Theatre to raise funds for improved stage lighting and sound equipment. The Regent is a 1935 Art Deco theatre that has been refurbished over recent years to boast the latest technology including 3D film capability. West Coast Historical Online Resource Growing

A website managed by the NZ National Library is helping West Coasters preserve historical family documents and promoting local history to an international audience.
